Sick

Baby Girl, Little One and I have all been sick for the past few days.  I have all the symptoms that they do, plus more, and while it really sucks to have 2 kids with tummy issues, at least they're not as bad as I was.

I've thought about what could be causing such lasting gastrointestinal issues, and I thought it must be bacteria from something we ate (and something that the three of us ate but Mc didn't).  I gave the kids scrambled eggs in the morning, but I always cook them thoroughly.  I also always wash fresh fruit before I give it to them.  The only thing we've eaten recently that I didn't prepare myself was food from the Cheesecake Factory this past Friday.  It's food that I had no control over how it was prepared, nor did I have control over whether or not the workers washed their hands when they should have.

I had a hunch yesterday as to what it could be, and so this morning I looked it up, and I think what we have is a salmonella infection. (you can click on "salmonella infection" and it'll send you to the Mayo Clinic link about it).  I had every one of those symptoms listed in the article except for the last one, all in one day!  Mc had to stay home from work on Tuesday because I was pretty much bedridden.  I think the food we ate at the Cheesecake Factory was contaminated, and I think that the kids' symptoms aren't as bad as mine because they hardly ate any of the food, while I finished half of mine and some of theirs.  Mc and our visiting friends Blitzen and Blondie didn't get sick, so their food must've been fine.

Despite their sickness, the kids are both happy as usual.  Little One still likes to play with things that move and Baby Girl still wants to read books.  They're both more cuddly than usual, but that's normal when you're not feeling well.

We're all slowly getting better.  Symptoms generally last from 4-7 days, and it's been about 5, so if the kids are still throwing up in 3 days we'll go the doctor.  Until then, just gotta keep myself and the kids hydrated and rested... and teach them to throw up in a bowl and not on the couch.

:( Poor babies. It's hard to be sick as a mom because it makes taking care of your kids so hard if not impossible. But then it's even worse to see your babies be sick. You just want to take all of their pain away. I hope you guys are all feeling better soon and I'm glad the kiddles are still in good spirits.

5 days?!? That is way too long. The only good thing about the stomach flu is that it usually doesn't last more than a day. Ugh. I'm sorry, that sucks. And it is so hard to watch kiddos be sick and know that you cant take their pain away. Feel better soon!

How awful to be sick that long! Hope you are doing better by now. It sounds like you had it the worst. I bet the contamination was in the kids food, because you and they were the only ones who ate it. Guess you won't be going to Cheesecake Factory again anytime soon. Nice that Mike could help out. We love you and hope you are all doing well now.
